Google updates search display formats to provide more context for users

This shouldn’t have any real impact on SEO or Google usage in general, but Google has announced a couple of changes to the display of search resultsin order to provide more clarity and transparency in their listings.

First of all, Google is adding site names to search results on mobile devices, so users can more easily identify the website associated with each result at a glance.

Google SERP Updates

As you can see from these examples, you’ll now see the website name and URL for each result, providing more context about which site, exactly, you’re going to.

Google also expanded the favicon size for each listing, giving each one more brand exposure.

That is, of course, provided you’ve updated your site details to ensure the favicon shows up (you can find more information on how to implement it here). here). Which is really the only SEO consideration here: By making sure your site details are up to date for your favicon to display, that can help increase your presence on Google’s Search in App and increase awareness and visibility. Of the brand.

The other key update of note, also visible in the example above, is that Google is changing the Ad Notifier from ‘Ad’ to ‘Sponsored’.

ace for Google:

Part of helping you make sense of the information you see is making sure ads are clearly labeled, which is why our label will now appear on its own line in the top left corner of search ads. We also want the label to be prominent and clear on different types of paid content. That’s why when ads show up in mobile search results, they’ll now be labeled with the word “Sponsored” in bold black. This new label and its prominent position continues to meet our high standards for distinguishing itself from search results and builds on our existing efforts to clarify information about paid content.”

Again, these aren’t breaking changes, but they could have an impact if your site isn’t properly aligned with Google’s setup schemas. The variation of ‘advertised’ and ‘sponsored’ has been muddied by years of different listings on social apps anyway, and these days most people know that the top results on any Google search screen are paid. .

Might help provide some additional clarity, but for most, it’s more of an FYI than a major note of change.

The new SERP update is rolling out to Google’s mobile app right now, while it will roll out to desktop soon as well.
