Snap Releases New AR Guide to Administering CPR for World Restart a Heart Day

Snapchat continues to expand the potential and practical value of AR, this time through a collaboration with International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in a new AR CPR overview, which will help guide people through key lessons in life-saving CPR techniques.

As you can see from this example, the new AR experience provides an overview of how to administer CPR, along with test items and other details to help educate people about the process.

How do you explain it? Nap:

“This new educational AR experience will allow you to learn about CPR and will take you through a real life example where you can walk among the people performing the techniques and take quizzes to test your knowledge. You can even play interactive games to understand the rhythm of how to perform chest compressions.”

The initiative is launched to mark World Restart a Heart Day (10/16), which aims to raise awareness and education about CPR and Automated External Defibrillators (AED) in the community.

According to research, 7 out of 10 cardiac arrests occur in front of bystanders, yet less than 20% of people end up providing what could be life-saving first aid.

This new augmented reality experience seeks to provide greater awareness of what needs to be done, which can help educate more people about the process, or could even work as an overlay at a time when it’s needed.

It’s interesting to see Snap’s continued efforts to advance the use of AR, with shopping, art exhibits, and now health experiences integrated into the app.

Of course, many large companies are exploring the use of AR for similar purposes. Meta, for example, this week outlined how its upcoming AR glasses could help people visually impaired to better navigate their environment.

But those developments aren’t here yet, while Snap is making them a reality and moving forward with the use of AR right now, via the in-app camera.

Will that also give Snap an advantage if it ends up releasing an AR version of the Spectacles device?

It’s hard to say what will happen once true AR-enabled glasses become commercially available, but Snap remains a key leader in the space, and innovations like this help keep it ahead of the curve, which could bode well for its future. .
